The Next GUS meeting – Open Podium Edition – 16 april
Hi folks,
De volgende meeting van de super-gezellige, extra aardige, ukulele club – de Groningen Ukulele Society, zal plaats vinden op dinsdag 16 April in de bovenruimte van o’ceallaigh Irish Pub vanaf 19:00 uur.
Deze is een ‘speciale editie’ meeting. De Ukulele Open Podium editie, dat betekent dat de eerste helft van de avond een GUS singalong is- zoals we gewend zijn-, maar na de pauze is het open podium met een kleine muziekinstallatie boven waarbij iedereen uitgenodigd is om een liedje te spelen, ongeacht niveau of ervaring. De bedoeling is dat het leuk en gezellig wordt (want dat is Ukulele toch?)
Neem je ukulele, een glimlach en je zin (of gezin) mee en geniet van de wereld van Ukulele.
Vergeet niet om op tijd te zijn als je een mooie zitplaats wil.

This is a ‘special edition’ meeting. The Ukulele Open Podium‘ edition. That means thatthe first half of the evening is the normal GUS singalong and after the pause the open podium begins.
There will be a small music installation and everyone is invited to get up and play a song, regardless of nuveau experience. The idea is to have a nice fun evening. (coz that’s ukulele !)
Bring your uke, a smile and your enthusiasm (and maybe a friend) and bathe yourself in the wonderful world of Ukulele.
Don’t forget to be on time if you want to find a good seat.

The next meeting is on tuesday the 2nd of April in our usual haunt – upstairs at O’ceallaigh Irish Pub, Kattendiep 13, Groningen (nl) from 19:00 to 21:30
Everybody is welcome to come along and join in of course, the evening is for all abilities and led from the front so everyone can easily join in and have fun.
For people who have not downloaded the books (GUS Songbooks), there are song books and a couple of ukuleles to use on the night.
If you are worried about your ‘ability to play’, you just don’t have to, it’s a uke club !!!

The 7th Big Ukulele Xmas Singalong – what a ball
What fun.
Back in the beautuful Lola celebrating xmas the ‘ukulele way’ with the GUS and friends.
In a crowded hall deep in the heart of Groningen, ukulele folk from the Netherlands and Germany came together to uke up the night.
And what a wonderful night of music and friendship it was. Kicked off with a performance from the GUS Band to wake up the crowd and get the ukulele train a’rollin.
A special treat this year with the wonderful – Professor Peter – wooing us with his performance of 20’s and 30’s classics, great stuff.
And of course a ‘surprise’ mini concert from the Coconut Knakkers.
Singalongs and great open podium acts filling the spaces and adding to the fun.
I think we might keep this GUS thing going !!!

The next Groningen Ukulele Society Meeting – 8 january 2019
A new year, thus – time for more ukulele.
2018 was loads of fun for the GUS with lots of new faces and a few new songs, some partys and gigs, an open podium or two andthe odd visit to other ukeclubs. In fact, it was so much that we are going to keep it going through 2019.
The next meeting is on tuesday the 8th of january in our usual haunt – upstairs at O’ceallaigh Irish Pub, Kattendiep 13, Groningen (nl) from 19:00 to 21:30
Everybody is welcome to come along and join in of course, the evening is for all abilities and led from the front so everyone can easily join in and have fun.

It’s the 7th Big Ukulele Xmas Singalong in Groningen on the15th of december 2018
It’s here, It’s time, with xmas round the corner time to warm up those ukuleles and get on down to ole’ Groningen Town here in the Netherlands where you can find true ukulele spirit in the form of the
Not just a singalong, but a whole evening of ukulele fun.
It starts early in te beautiful Lola, the bar is open, the heating is on and the Buffet is on the table !!!
We will be starting as always with the Groningen Ukulele Society houseband opening performance,
a not to miss ukulele musical extravaganza !!!! (dancing is allowed)
Don’t forget the ‘famous ukulele luckydip singalong’ a great song or prize uke-session for everyone.

Ok what about our special treat, the internationally renowned ukulele virtuoso Professor Peter
wooing us with his roaring twenties and swinging thirties musical extravaganza.

Well, there is the Big Xmas Strum and Singalong with D’Clog and friends, 30 minutes of christmas cheer with all your favorite Xmas songs on a big screen to play along and sing your hearts out…

Ok then, we have an big open ukulele podium where everyone is welcome to jump up and have a go.
Wether you can only play a C – or you play a uke profesionally – here is your chance to put your mark on our ukulele party,

Iedereen is van harte welkom om mee te komen spelen en zingen in deze gezellige pub.
Neem een Uke en je goeie humeur mee als wij populaire liedjes proberen te spelen in een laagdrempelige en ontspannen sfeer. Tevens liggen er hier ukuleles voor de mensen die er nog geen in bezit hebben.

De G.U.S. is bedoeld om beginners en gevorderden te laten genieten (met een beetje begeleiding) van het eenvoudig en geweldig instrument

After a wonderful season of the Groningen Ukulele Society, full of smiles and wonderful music, lots of new faces, lots of familiar faces and lots of new songs and fun nights, it’s time for us to take a short pause.
After a quick ‘uke tour’ the GUS will be back in business on the 7th of august – same place, same time, to uke up your lives, put smiles on your faces and offer a warm friendly and safe place for people to come together and play that wonderous little instrument: The Ukulele

The 6th edition of the great big ukulele Xmas singalong
It’s all happening in Groningen – well – Ukulele Xmas anyway!!
The 6th edition of that wonderful thing that is the Big Ukulele Xmas Singalong this year will be held at the Lola in Groningen on the 16th of december with the doors opening at 4 o’clock.
We’ve got a lot of fun to fit in so we’re starting the party early
This year there will be a buffet, Ukulele Lucky Dip Singalong, an opening set by that big bad – Groningen Ukulele Society, ukulele open stage, guests acts The Coconut Knackers, Brasso, D’Clogs and of course, good ole’ ukulele fun for everyone.
The buffet starts at 5 o’clock and the night begins with the Groningen Ukulele Society opening concert starting at 6 o’clock
Don’t forget the Big Ukulele Xmas singalong session led by D’Clog and friends !!!!
