The Next Groningen Ukulele Society Meeting – 4th of april
De volgende meeting is in de bovenruimte van O’ceallaigh Irish Pub, Gedempte Kattendiep 13, Groningen op dinsdag avond, 4 april 2017 van 19;00 tot 21:30 uur.
Iedereen is van harte welkom om mee te komen spelen en zingen in deze gezellige pub.
Neem een Uke en je goeie humeur mee als wij populaire liedjes proberen te spelen in een laagdrempelige en
ontspannen sfeer. Tevens liggen er hier ukuleles voor de mensen die er nog geen in bezit hebben.

The 5th Big Ukulele Xmas Singalong – 17 december
It’s Xmas again, The heating is on, the snow is (maybe) falling, the days are short, the nights are long, this can only mean one thing!!!
It’s time for the 5th edition of the ‘ Great Big Ukulele Xmas Singalong ‘ the longest running ‘dutch’ ukulele event in the NL !!
As always, hosted by those cheerful folk from the Groningen Ukulele Society, this year in the Lola, the prettiest venue in Groningen – (Pelsterdwarsstraat 11, 9711 KP Groningen).
An evening of ukulele fun, entertainment and madness with performances, ukulele open podium, special guests, food, drink, and don’t forget the
Ukulele Xmas Singalong with D’Clog n’ friends !!
Our sisterclub from Bremen will be there to entertain and keep the party going, the polder folk will be there keeping up the fun. Will You ????

New Ukulele Workbook from Mr. Phil Doleman
Phil’s voice is as big as his ukulele is small, and his love of vintage blues, hokum, jug band and jazz shines through in his intricate picking and driving rhythms. Known as one of the leading lights of the ’3rd wave’ of the ukulele, Phil has travelled all over the UK and to Europe and the US, performing and leading workshops at festivals, theatres, clubs and events. Groningen Ukulele Society play Rumbling Earth Festival
On a sunny saturday in june if you wandered down the high street in Groningen, weaving through the throng, you might have heard a chirpy melody bouncing of the walls of the local shops… Is that a bird ? is that a bee ? no no no, that’s the sound of ukuleles !! You would be forgiven over here in the Netherlands for not recognising that bouncy little sound, there arn’t many ukuleles to be found… But here in Grunn, The ukulele recognition movement has begun.. with that funky little club, the Groningen Ukulele Society, playing here and there, giving the ukulele some air!!
This time we where elbowing our way into the Rumbling Earth Festival (not really – we where invited) – a new event in Groningen to promote the idea of a ‘ free musical city ‘ where performers are not required to buy a licence to play on the streets – ( a strange but normal thing here in the netherlands).
We where there, we where heard, people smiled, people danced, Job Done !!!!

The Groningen Ukulele Society Xmas Party 2015
Again, this Xmas, the GUS where on the loose with our 4th annual Xmas party and singalong..
Due to an ever expanding club and uke-frend group we changed location to the slightly bigger (but not big enough) Rock n Roll Bar – the Crowbar…
The GUS where joined by the Bremen Ukulele Club (Bremer Ukulelenorchester) and Ukulele Club Wolderwijd (formerly the Hardewijkse Ukulele Club).
There where also Punk Rockers in the building !!! Therefore, the GUS felt obliged (obliged?? we loved it!!) to do out ‘Rock n Roll set.
Followed by Wolderwijd and then Bremen on the stage… Wonderbaar…
Fun, fun and more fun for everybody involved… Even the punks stayed in the building!!
